Peter Fernandez

No stranger to the entertainment business, Peter started at the age of 7, modeling to help his family through the Depression. By age 11, he was acting on Broadway and radio. Later in the army, he worked in the Pentagon as a mail clerk and eventually as an announcer for the Army Band radio show.

This path led him to being hired in 1963 by a company called Titra. He was responsible for writing, directing, and dubbing voices into English for foreign films. In 1967, Zavala-Riss, the editing company hired Peter to prepare Speed Racer and Marine Boy for syndication in the English-speaking market. Peter not only provided the voices of Speed Racer and Racer X, but also wrote and directed the series.

In addition to Speed Racer, he is credited for some other well-known Japanese cult-classics, Godzilla, Astro Boy and Gigantor. When asked if he thought the Speed Racer Series would become such a cult classic, “Nope. It was just another job. Now, I get a wonderful reaction. People are very excited that they actually get to meet Speed Racer.”

Mr. Fernandez is also credited for writing and directing Ultra Man (syndicated, 1968), Star Blazers (syndicated, 1979), Galaxy Rangers (syndicated, 1986), and, Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel riders (for the Fox network, 1996). Peter currently resides in Rockland County, New York.
